We’ll walk through two approaches with different base images and tradeoffs. In this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to put a Rust web application inside a Docker container. Once an image has been built, it doesn’t change and can be executed on any platform that has a running Docker engine with a minimal performance penalty (on Linux). This approach has some nice benefits for both local development and server deployments. Since Docker ushered in a wave of container hype several years ago, it has become somewhat standard, especially in the cloud, to package web applications as Docker containers.
